The Battle of Coloden

The Battle of Coloden was the last battle fought on British soil. The Jacobite army set off when the sun had gone down and marched throughout the night. But by the time that the sun was coming up, they still hadn't arrived and so turned back. It was a long march to where the government camp was, about 13 kilometres, and the ground was muddy and wet. At least 1,250 Jacobites were killed, and an equal number wounded. Bonny Prince Charlie did manage to escape as did around 5,000 of his 7,000 men.
