Stuff You Missed in History Class

CHAPTER

The History of Quakers in Massachusetts

Some accounts suggest that the dire family were allowed to take Mary's body away either because of her sex or because they had money and influence. There's also some disagreement on where Mary dire was buried when people were executed in colonial Massachusetts. After dire execution more people in Massachusetts started to question whether Quakers returning to the colony should really be punishable by death. In spite of that discussion though Quaker William Ledger was hanged on March 14 1661. Some sources describe Ledger as from Barbados he seems to have been born in Cornwall and then either immigrated to Barbados or was transported there due to his religious beliefs.
