Catherine the Great and Joseph the Great
Catherine the Great was one of the all-time great war leaders. Under her rule, Russia expanded over and over again. But Catherine's greatest territorial session was the Ottoman Empire. Every time she went to war to get more Turkish land, Joseph was obliged by treaty to follow her into battle. In August 1787, the Sublime Port, the central Ottoman government, declared war on Russia.
