Thin on the Ground
As thin as a rake refers to that tool people use in the garden to collect their leaves. Another expression you'll hear a lot is surprisingly, perhaps, if you've never heard before, painfully thin. For example, I lost so much weight when I was travelling in Asia that I came back looking painfully thin. Let's move on to look at some idioms now and we mentioned some of these in the introduction to this podcast.
