Is Peer Programming a Good Idea?

Pair programming is a staple of extreme programming. Having your team write code together is probably an under explored area. I think the gains in productivity outweigh the quote unquote loss in fingers on keyboards, but it wouldn't make sense for day to day operations. But like you, I would be hesitant to use it daily.
