The film's gender politics, like the filmmaking itself and the script and the writing don't come down strongly enough to criticize these characters. Aaron Sorkin is notorious for writing female characters incredibly terribly for I think being bad on set to female actors. The guy who wins the Oscar for best actor has a much higher bar to clear than the woman who wins best actress. So this guy is documented to be pretty sexist. He's even addressed it. It feels like it just runs through the filmmaking itself as well.
