Automated Systems Are Used to Perpetuate Bias
Too often the computer systems are used to perpetuate bias or in the case of something like a public assistance. The automation is actually used to edge people out of being able to access benefits. There's a really great book by Virginia Ubanks called Automating Inequality. And in it, she writes about how automated system are used to profile police and punish the poor.
