The Development of Package Holidays
In the fifties, only one in 16 british holiday makers went abroad. This rose slowly to one in ten by the end of the decade. Most people were encouraged by the thought of a package tour where everything was taken care of for them. And destinations changed completely, from rather wet northern climes,. holidays in belgium, northern france, the netherlands and ireland, to the mediterranean, spain and portugal. They've provided a very insulating experience for people who wanted to go abroad for the first time.
