Robert Gero had been on the run for about a week when he was finally caught. He'd gotten away again by the skin of his teeth, but he had no intention of ever getting caught. After somehow slipping out of Adirondack Park, he made his way east towards Lake Champlain. His younger sister Agnes lived nearby and knew she wouldn't turn him away.
