The Book of Job
We are given three cycles of speeches with Job opening and Elephaz, Bill Dad and Zofar taking it in turns to offer Job their words. And then Job responds to them and has the last word, the concluding summation speech of the cycle. It really is no wonder why Herman Melville chose a verse from Job as one of the first epigraphs along with Jonah and Genesis for Moby Dick. Darkness, death and despair is often a return to the womb and a necessity that preffices rebirth.
