The Ethical Devious Experiment in Psychiatry
Three men who each believed they were the biblical figure, Jesus Christ. Each diagnosed with schizophrenia and soon to be subject of an ethically devious experiment. In 1893, there is this specific mental hospital that there's this really great science museum article about. And his conclusion, it was, it would be astonishing to find that any cures are ever made there. So essentially, mental asylum started off in the UK as churches just taking in desks to people off the streets. They transitioned into being more what we'd think of today as a psychiatric hospital with treating patients like actual people.
