How do you know that this person is worth continuing having a conversation with? If they spent most of it talking about themselves, I'm probably not interested in carrying on talking with them. Someone who shows some sort of interest in what I'm up to and why I'm doing it because that person has social intelligence and EQ are really important. It's almost like the skills in today's job market - there's obviously a lot of highly skilled engineers and analytical people. But those people who then get ahead in their career are the ones that have exceptional social skills,. And understand people and how people tick and all that kind of thing.
