Mary Ann Bigford met Albert Terrell while working and the two of them had started a very intense relationship. They traveled together as a married couple, even though she was already married to another man. And then that man deserted her, which is what led her to prostitution. When Terrell ran from Boston after the murder happened, he went to hide with relatives in Weymouth. Then he went north to Canada to get passage aboard a ship to go to Liverpool. That voyage had to turn back because of bad weather and he got on a second ship in New York to go to New Orleans. On December 5th, he was arrested after a Louisiana authorities got a tip that he was aboard
