The Effect of Potassium on EKG Changes in Patients With Hyperkalemia
The absence of EKG changes in a patient with hyperkalemia is actually really common. The higher the K, the more likely it was that you'd see an EKG change. If somebody's potassium is 5.6 for a while and now they're 5.8, that's not a lot of change. But if someone has been 5.6, it's now 6.2, I'll think about it differently. For me, any abrupt change from normal to hyperkalemic is worrisome and needs to be treated.
