How did Christ overcome the estrangement and condemnation of sinners before a holy God so as to reconcile them to Him? Well, this is the question that governs the doctrine of the atonement. And in handling this question, I think it's important that we distinguish between the fact of theAtonement and a theory of the Atonement. Any theory pretending to be Christian needs to be consistent with the biblical data about theatonement.
