The Dispersion of Children From North Stoneham
Between May and September 1937, they were sent to locations across the country. The Salvation Army took 400, the Catholic Church took 1,200. Most of the remainder went to what were called colonies, which was set up on the initiative of local individuals and groups. We don't know exactly how many colonies existed. But approximately 70 to 90 colonies existed at various times in England, Scotland and Wales.
