During the reign of Severus Alexander, there's a momentous change in geopolitics on Rome's eastern frontier. And this is the demise of the Parthian Empire, and their conquest by the Sassanian Persians. So here we see the rise of Ardashia, who was the son of the vassal king of Persis,. He owed allegiance to the parthian king, Artabarnus. After Papak died, Artabarna killed his older brother, and so by around AD 212 he established himself as King of Persis.
