Is CCR5 Activated in the Hippocampus?

There was some previously published data suggesting that CCR5 can negatively regulate up an important gene for memory. And so they wanted to know if this receptor actually expressed in the parts of the brain that are important from making new memories. The pachampus does express CCR5 and CCL5, which is the ligand and the receptor. So you need both the receptor and the ligand for it to be activated. But what was interesting is that after a training experience, there is an increase in the expression of CCR5 in the hippocampus.
