Is the EU Really a Peace Project?

I used to be a very much of a pro-EU in the 2000s. I share that same cultural consciousness of knowing World War II and the EU was the ultimate peace project. And I was willing to make almost any excuse for why Europe as a as a whole should have more power over nation states. That was how I conceptualized it at the time. Of course the reality is not like that. The system has derailed, decoupled from its roots and of its concern with normal people.
