The Earliest Known Christian Art in the House Church at Dur Europo
One of the oldest synagogues that's ever been found in the world is there. And it contains the earliest known christian art with depictions of jesus christ. The style of this art work is hellenistic jewish, so it's in line with the art work produced by jews who had adopted some greek styles. But it is also cruder. It was probably done by a poorer artist. Maybe because of secrecy. Many of them began meeting in catacombs, which was a very symbolic move because the roman world had an extreme taboo against death.
