The Child's Head Was One of 22 Human Remains Assayed in a New Life Science Article
The child's preserved head was one of 22 human remains associated with the ancient Nausica society examined in a new study. The individuals lived during the pre-Hispanic era, 3500 BC to AD 476, and were buried near the southern coast of Peru. Hoxological examinations revealed that many of the deceased had consumed some type of psychoactive or stimulant plant prior to their deaths. Those ingested items include coca leaves, known as a source of the psychoactive substance cocaine,. A San Pedro cactus, which contains mesclin, a psychedelic drug.
