In your book, you write that since the inception of psychiatry, it has been in trouble. But here is the interesting thing: It continues to persist. And I think there are two broad causes as to why we see this persistence. One set of causes deals with what psychiatrists themselves have done. The history of American psychiatry is the history of ignorance. This allows psychiatrists or psychiatry to make an important claim vis-a-vis a ignorance.
