In Japan, it's called ikigai, which translates very roughly to the reason you jump out of bed in the morning. The French call this your raison d'etre. Dan Butner identified this sense of sustained intrinsic purpose as a key commonality in the world's populations who tend to live the longest and maintain vibrant health well into the 80s, 90s, and even 100 years old.
