How Do You Know if You Don't Play?
Each of those trumpet players, for example, the art, the Chet, Miles, Freddie, you know, Ernie Royal, Snooki Young, the big band guys out there, Emmett Berry. Each one of those guys were his teacher. And my job is to understand what the classwork is. What is it though with a trumpet player? Because I don't play jazz, you know. A lot of factors, physically, with those guys and lips and chops and stuff like that. But I think they all have a certain need to know if they don't play, who will pick up that slot?
