Is There a Substitute for Understanding?

A lot of religious people suffer from this problem because they read a bible or some sort of holy text. They take them so literally that there's no room for interpretation in their mind. But the whole trick to all spiritual writings and teachings is that they're always talking about something transcendent and implicit, which can never be spoken. So if you try to approach spiritual texts with this explicit mentality, you're always going to get it wrong.
