How to Respond Properly to Racism in the Middle of Class

Teachers need to be a role model of that too. But that begins with clamping down around in public, but in a way that disrupts the class as little as possible. If someone got a mobile phone out in the classroom and they're tip-tipping away but nobody has seen it, you could probably sort the class, have a big up route to your behavior instruction or something like that. And if they want to make a deal of it then you've made an intelligent decision about how to use your time.
