A new book by a scholar at Birmingham University in the UK which up ends our understanding of abolitionism generally speaking. This scholar pushes abolitionism back to the 17th century in the lusophone world. He's a scholar that's a offspring of Portuguese colonialism and as he tells the story you had Angolans who were campaigning in the Vatican in the 17th Century on behalf of enslaved Africans, exploited indigenous and also so-called new Christians.
