How Do You Stop a Gull From Stolen Your Chips?

Resource theft is more commonly known as kleptoparasitism. The term first appeared in the 1952 book Fleece Flukes and Cuckoo's A Study of Bird Parasites by Dame Miriam Rothschild and Theresa Clay. It was used to describe arctic scooers habit of chasing down other seabirds and bullying them into either dropping their catch or regurgitating it so that they could eat it. So if we want to understand this behaviour we've got to learn a bit more about its history, how prevalent it is in the animal kingdom.
