The Promise of the Land in Psalm 2
Western Protestantism has usually failed to realize that the promise of the land was an advance symbol for God's rightful claim on the whole creation. In Psalm 2 God promises to the Messiah that I will make the nations your inheritance and so we find the monarchy then seen as the ideal kingship. From David onwards well from Saul onwards the kings are signally failed to live up to their high calling but the Psalms and Isaiah still remind them of what that calling is.
