The Crisis in American Politics Today Is for Republicans to Calm Down
There is this weird populism that demands everything else give way to what they want without expecting anything from the people making any demands. The crisis in American political life today is for Republicans to calm down and for white voters to quit thinking of themselves as an afflicted minority or in some trouble, but instead to say the country's doing really well. Where is that kind of aspirational patriotism in either of these parties? Because I don't hear it.
