Is There a Need to Study Data Structures in Computer Science?

I want people to ask questions of the data first. Before they try and memorize something to say, how often will I need this? Do I need it completely urgently or have I got a minute to work it out? How much data there is, what shape it is. And once they've asked those questions, it should be obvious what structure to use. So would you encourage those who study the art of memory to also study data structures in computer science? Or do you think what would your advice be?
