Is There a Need for Credentialing?

I think a great barrier right now is the active credentialing. Some parents and students feel safer with your accredited high school diploma. SAT and AP exams can be official and give students credibility they need to get into the colleges they want. If you write great code, I've known people who have gotten jobs in tech by writing open source code and putting it on GitHub. That today is a better credential than say computer science degree.
