A rationalistic view of spirituality goes back to the early church, he says. But there's a growing recognition that model is truncated and it's got to be integrated with what I call 'relational knowledge' He describes two distinct ways of knowing about God: conceptual and implicit. The former drives how we experience relationships; the latter tells us how to relate to others.
