Wallace's Fractal Associative Thinking
David Foster Wallace was influenced by the postmoderns, like Pinchin and Wingas. He doesn't quite believe that true emotion has really disappeared from art. The tension is what animates his work in this book. There's a brief scene where she's so depressed that she wants to kill herself. It's an incredibly vivid about what it's like to be depressed.
