Property law is really at the heart of slave societies. The system depends on classifying enslaved people as chattel property. In england, land is the most important type of property. Chattel property had fewer protect s and was a lot easier to buy and sell. If creditors could attach property, they were more likely to give people credit because they have a remedya.
