Having a Reactive Element to Your Training
I think having some reactive element to your training, especially as you get older, is really important. I always enjoyed seeing him talk about self defence, knowing he had like this mass of background and martial arts. Having something as a part of your normal weekly schedule where you're doing something reactionary, i think helps keep you young in a way.
