Book Review - Cloud Empires

The book is an attempt to grapple with the question of how did we end up here. I'm old enough to remember when the Internet was supposed to free us from gatekeepers, it was supposed to birth this new social fabric based on self organizing networks and communities. But now that everyone's finally online, the scenery looks very different from a village right? And it looks almost like we're being managed by a government again, except that this time we don't even get to vote for the leaders. So the question is why did things turn out this way, why was this sort of original promise of the Internet betrayed, and what's to be done about it.
