Once we have this radiograph or the panoramic radiograph we look at the jaw structure. The outer layer which is more like a the harder shell which is called the cortical bone and the inside which is more of a honeycomb structure or what we call the spongy bones. What we really are trying to see is how dense is this bone structure so that should give an idea as a proxy for the general bone mineral density.
