Fear is a huge part of it, right? People are afraid. And we know that when people are scared, they seek the safety and protection of others - what you call a tribe. The more scared people are, the more they are willing to pay or sacrifice for their tribe's protection. We start to become irrational and almost disproportionately react with o orfear response to the threat. When people feel threatened, they will either defend themselves, ultimately with violence, or they will seek out someone who will defend them.
