Universal Deposit Insurance
Sally Kohn: I'm drawn to the idea of some kind of universal deposit insurance. At least then it's like we know what it is, she says. She argues that having banks finally pay into a deposit insurance fund would ultimately be a tax on all depositors because they would simply pass costs on to everyone. Kohn: There has to be a way to do that in a way that's sort of equitable and sensible even though there are also going to be lots of ways that wouldn't make sense that I'm sure the banks will push for.
