In the 19th century in particular paintings proliferated of Dante as a romantic lover and Béatríche as his young beloved. Since Vocaccia's life of Dante, she was identified with the daughter of a Florentine, Banca, the beachy portinare of history. In every edition of the poem, whether it's Italian or English today, it would say Dante saw Béacliche with the first binded nine brother. No, that's Pietro. And this purely allegorical interpretation can be traced through the commentary of the century as a commentary up to around second world war.
