The Life and Times of Cosimo De Medici

Cosimo de Medici was a great patron of the arts and buildings in Florence. He never actually held any real political power, but controlled others through putting his friends, family, and contacts into positions of power. When he died in 1464, the ownership of the bank with it the non-official title of most powerful man in Florence, was passed to his son who only survived for five years. Lorenzo is the grandson of Cosimo and the great grandson of Giovanni DiBiCi de Medici, the original founder of the bank.
