The Paradox of Property Values and Homelessness
A rise in property values means more people will lose access to housing. In Echo Park, the park had been used for the last decade as a selling point for the neighborhood's gentrification. When they're called in to clear and contain unhoused people, what they're doing is protecting that space from the threat that unhoused people are presenting to economic growth. And so when people are sent into homelessness, right, by that system that prioritizes investors in the raising of property values over the needs of tenants and people who need homes.
