The Butler's Role at the Dining Table
The butler would stand there at dinner time and he would be in charge of serving the food and drinks. The family would have to go up and get changed every night into their dining clothes. There was some very strict laws of etiquette at the dining table. A valet is the English word equivalent to valet, I suppose.
