The Effect of Carbon Dioxide on the Earth
London in March just isn't brilliant for sunshine. We've mocked up a kind of fake sun, and the fake sun is going to be provided by a halogen lamp. And then we have two flasks side by side. One has got carbon dioxide in it, and the other just has air. What's the temperature in these glasses? The temperature in our lab at the moment is 19.8 degrees. But you can see that the CO2 is leading it. It's now 0.8 of a degree ahead. In fact, it's a whole degree ahead. So what this is really telling us is that carbon dioxide has this mysterious property of being able to absorb radiant heat.
