The Legend of William Bowles

St. Augustine became like insanely overcrowded during the Revolutionary War because so many loyalists fled there. The best story though and I won't go through it again was the William Bowles story where he was a British loyalist who fled to Florida instead of going to you know what was considered urban then St. Augustine. He went out into the swamps and Cedar Key married an Indian chief's daughter become the chief united all the tribes in Florida under one flag declared his own country, lost eventually but hung in there for a few years.
