When science is updated and prevailing wisdom changes, what people tend to hear is just that the experts, the media and other authorities were wrong. In a pre pandemic world, the process would be carried out over months or years. But with a fast moving global threat like covid taking our time before making recommendations isn't always possible. Sometimes it's just more important to share the most up to date information you have on hand the moment you have - especially if lives are at stake.
