The Day of the Music Died, I Could Do a Whole Free for All Friday
Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper all died in a plane crash outside of Clear Lake Iowa. The song The Day of the Music Died was written by Don McLean. It is about when there's a big cultural change after these three legendary musicians die. After this, you have an end to a lot of popularity of one kind of 1950s rock and roll. In 1970, President Richard Nixon was saying that he was going to authorize an incursion into Cambodia. And so a lot of people protested. One of these protests took place at Kent State, May 4th, 1970. They fired 67 rounds over 13 seconds, killing four, wounding nine others.
