Isis is an offshoot of al-Qaeda in Iraq and Syria. The group was founded by a former member of the Syrian National Council, known as 'The Calamity Boys' Isis has been linked to other militant groups such as Al Shabaab who have taken up arms against Assad's regime. In his new book "Nihilism," Peter Bergen asks whether western nihilism plays any role in their world view.
