I think we could imagine some sort of stagnant society that was very far from the malthusian limit, you know, population densities. It's possible super Denmark might be like a pretty good place to be. Most of the pollution and most of the CO2 emissions are going to come from the developing world over the next century because it's frankly where the people are. And I think basically environmental protection is a luxury good for developing countries. If we want them to seriously protect the environment then we're going to have to shift towards green technologies but those are more expensive or require a higher technological development to roll out in large scale.
